Hello everyone! Welcome to my first blog. I am starting this adventure as part of an assignment to engage in advocacy on an issue related to occupational therapy. The issue I have chosen is how the predominant policy of patient handling in U.S. healthcare institutions constitutes an unacceptable workplace hazard.

Here is a bibliography of articles on patient lifting and links to other sites on patient lifting, as well as a short summary of how this issue relates to occupational therapy:

Look for further development in the days and weeks to come. I plan to post more information, my thoughts on it and relevant explanation (like what exactly is “manual patient handling”? who determines whether a workplace hazard is acceptable? how can we be sure this is good evidence?), and hopefully respond to others’ thoughts as well. Until then, Cheryl
